  • Natural Stone Wall & Perennial Garden: Image
Project Summary: Originally, the small bottom wall supported a steep slope covered with groundcover juniper. Bland colors and weed infestation convinced the homeowner to give this area a makeover. The steep slope was reduced with the addition of a short wall at the bottom of the hill. Attempts were made to blend with the look of the original wall be placing large anchor boulders at each end of the wall, and a few larger boulders within the middle of the wall too. A gentle curvature on each end of the wall provides character and planting area on the top tier. The new grade allowed the area to be filled with colorful perennials, as opposed to the groundcover juniper, without fear of wash-out. The existing perennials located behind the bottom wall were removed for construction, then divided and replanted in both tiers, and in other gardens in the yard as well. A broad variety of perennials provides color through early spring, until the late stages of fall.
